While
players are essential to any sports entity, the coaches form the absolute
backbone of the Collierville Soccer Association. They are simply
our most important assets. They are often a child's first teacher
in the sport of soccer. They are role models of good sportsmanship
and behavior. They are working men and women who give freely
of their time so that children will play and love the game of soccer.
Anyone
can be a coach in the Collierville Soccer Association. All it
takes is a yearning to have fun with kids and to want to teach.
While previous soccer experience would be beneficial to the prospective
coach, it is not a prerequisite. All coaches
benefit from the CSA's seasonal coaching clinics provided free by professional
coaches. Additionally, new coaches may benefit not only from
the clinics but also from the CSA's unique
coach-mentor program
whereby an experienced coach is paired with a new coach
for the first practice and game to ease the transition to coach.
Additionally,
United States Soccer Federation (USSF) licensing programs are available
for those coaches interested in attaining coaching certification.
The USSF “E” license course will be arranged by the CSA at seasonal
intervals.
So
how do you volunteer to become a coach? Simply check the appropriate
box on the CSA recreational Registration sheet when you sign your child
up and a commissioner will be in contact with you approximately three
to four weeks before the season starts. For those of you who
don't have children playing in the CSA but would like to contribute
your coaching expertise, please stop by the CSA offices or call 854-8724
to volunteer.
Within this coaching resource section you will find a multitude of age and skill
specific games for you to use during your practices. Some of the games
may be new to you, others maybe not, with many just variations on old
favorites.
When planning your session look on both the age specific page and the skill specific page. Then feel free to browse the other pages to find other games that may well be applicable to your team.
Over time you will find that some games will work better with your team than others. Try changing and adapting the less successful games to suite the teams particular needs. Use these games as a basic framework for constructing a tailored practice program for your team.
We would like this resource to grow each season, so if you have any games or practices that you wish to contribute to the site please email me at paulfurlong@colsoc.com or call me in the office 861 7856.
Happy coaching
