Everyone
has seen a soccer player juggling the ball off their feet, thighs and
head. While juggling may look "cool" and appear to be
just tricks for show, it actually teaches the most important fundamental
in soccer....."touch". First Touch is the foundation
to your soccer skills set and a vital part in your soccer success.
So get out and practice juggling. Be sure to log your progress.
Before long you will be not only amazing your friends with your acrobatic
trickery, but you will also be outplaying your opponent with your new
found "touch" on the ball. |

-
Start
by picking up the ball with hands.
-
Drop
ball on right thigh and then juggle (bounce) over to the left thigh
(2 juggles)then catch the ball with the hands. Once you
accomplish 2 juggles and catch the ball, this will become the foundation
for all other juggles. Early success is key, so make sure you can
get these 2 juggles.
- Repeat
this exercise to three and four juggles. After 4-5 juggles do
not catch the ball, instead get a juggle with your foot as the ball
falls to the ground.
Practice
is essential to success no matter the skill level or age group. Here's
a regimen to increase your juggling skill and make your mark on the
LOBOS Juggling Academy:
- Juggle
for 10-15 minutes and log your personal high on the juggling
log sheet. Repeat this for 10-15 minutes at least 5
times a week!
- Set
milestones or personal goals
Examples:
1-5
Juggles in 1 week
6-10
Juggles in 2 weeks
11-15
Juggles in 4 weeks
16-20
Juggles in 6 weeks
21-30
Juggles in 7 weeks
(Adjust
these personal goals according to your success)
In
the end, three ingredients make you a better juggler: desire,
goals, and work. If a player desires to improve, sets personal
goals and works to achieve these goals...he or she will improve.
